written, performed, and produced by mira martin aka rumor milk fka montana tyranno. recorded mostly in february and march 2017 by myself in my bedroom, located on or near the traditional territory of the mississaugas of the credit river and other anishinaabeg, wendat, and haudenosaunee first nations. i acknowledge the peoples and animals who lived on and off this stolen indigenous land where i grew up embedded in white supremacy, and situate myself here as a white trans woman of mi'kmaq and scottish descent.
this album is about suffering and hope. i made it during a manic episode which landed me in hospital. all the sounds are painstakingly conjured and sculpted by hand using my disabled trans body, aided by musical implements, and rendered in earlicking digital high resolution. you should be able to literally feel these songs without much effort. music is a physical medium as well as a spiritual practice. it is medicine and it keeps so many of us alive. it's tied with love for best drug imho. thank you so very much for listening. magic is real. rent is theft. capitalism is cruelty. needs are rights. austerity is murder. water is life. black lives matter. eat the rich. god damn amerikkka. nazi scum fuck off.
many thanks to niamh,* loree, sof, rachel, chloe, vye, dani, lylat, mel, jp, jess from d-beatstro, leila, caleb, mum, and everyone else who has supported and encouraged me musically and otherwise over the years, including my dad and others i've lost touch with. to those i have hurt, i'm so sorry. to those who've hurt me, i forgive you. those who miss me, i miss you too. thanks to my neighbours for putting up with me. thanks to chelsea vowel for advice on territorial acknowledgement. special thanks to the world is a beautiful place and i am no longer afraid to die for allowing their name to be appropriated during this eschatological moment. thanks to planned parenthood toronto & the queer and trans youth involved in creating the affirmations deck, where i first saw the phrase "existence is resistance," and thanks to leila for giving me a copy; the phrase originates from occupied palestine. finally i am extremely grateful to the spirits who live in my speakers for watching over my aging computer and other electronics while i worked to finish this thing before doomsday. my mum says we all have guardian angels and i can't argue.
for all you gearheads out there, i used a CAD m9 tube mic with homemade pop filter held in front of my mouth (emboridery hoop+panty hose=DIY makes u gay), denver 3/4 scale classical guitar, fender stratocaster (50s reissue, surf green), fender mustang III amp, mapex snare, maraca (cuban), roland SH-101 synthesizer, and sabian crash/ride cymbal with homemade ball chain sizzle. everything is recorded, edited, mixed and "mastered" with ableton live 8 by way of presonus firebox.
artwork modified from a page of an unknown drawing instructional book (i assume that's what it is) found on etsy through google images.
if you like this music and can afford to pay for it please do. i worked very hard on it.
*very extra special thanks to niamh for lending me her synth and for loving and supporting me during the extremely rough time around when this record was made and for asking me to marry her.
